Here can be seen the importance of church discipline. Our Lord has given instruction in Mt 18 how He wants it to be done. The ultimate goals are the restoration of the guilty, the purity of Christ 's church, and most importantly, the glory of God. Paul evidenced patience and love while at the same time not sidestepping a leader 's responsibility under Christ. Ultimately the guilty party was restored, God be praised.
