Lynn,
Paul is saying I'm not going to change my basic principle. I'm not coming there to all of a sudden be a burden to you. I'm not going to become like all those other false teachers. But this is now the third time. We know that Paul went to Corinth once, recorded for us in Acts Chapter 18, where they received the Lord, and he established the church there.
There was a second time that he was going to go but the Lord had other plans. And so the false teachers jumped all over that one too. "He said he was going to come and see you? Where is he? He didn't make it did he? He doesn't keep his word!"
That's why earlier Paul said our yes and our no is in the Lord, meaning we will be there if it's the Lord's will. So the false teachers made a big deal out of it. So now this is the third time that he's getting ready to come to them.
So then we have the concept under motivation. He says "for I seek not yours, but you. Wow! The word you is literally your soul. Paul is saying I don't seek your money or your possessions, or anything else from you. I seek your soul. Talk about conviction! It doesn't matter to Paul if they have money or not. Paul's concern was over people's souls.
Then he gives the reason, "For the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children. So Paul is saying "You're the children. You're not supposed to support me, I'm supposed to support you."
That's kind of backwards to the direction we find ourselves in today. But leadership is supposed to support the people, not financially, but with the ministry of the gospel, just as if they were his children. What requirements do you put on your children? Responsibility? Yes! But don't kick your children out just because they are broke.
Hopefully this helps!

God seems to have a heart for the underdogs. God chose unlikely people in the Bible for great things. Some were insecure, hesitant, complained, said 'why me?', yet God had a plan. We do that today. We have shortcomings and don't think we can do this or that to help others or fulfill our purpose. God's strength is made perfect in our weakness. Amen.

The Lord is so good. I ove this verse. He saves us from our wretchedness and by His grace takes what is weak and sinful and makes it stringer and in many cases becomes the very thing that most shows His grweatness in our lives. I know that for me the very thing I needed the most forgiveness and grace from is the thing He is uskng to show Himself in me. Thank you Lord for always working in me.

Truly the Grace of God is Amazing : to have saved a wretch like me. This passage in 2 Cor.12:9 is very meaning to me. I have prayed for this in many situations. God's strength is made perfect in my weakness : My Lord Jesus has proved it time and again. Thank God for faith and that I have a copy of His Word. I am truly Blessed to be a child of God.The Grace of God teaches me to deny ungodliness.Titus 2:11-13. Praise God !!!

Timothy Wayne George's comment on 2013-10-15 04:04:56:
Thank God that His grace is sufficient for every trial that comes our way. Even though Paul prayed three times for God to remove the thorn in the flesh, Jesus assured him that My grace is sufficient for thee. Most gladly will I boast in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may be upon me. God gets the glory when we praise Him through the storms of life. It is only then do we experience the grace of God to continue on to finish the race that God has given us, looking unto Jesus the Author, and finisher of our faith.

Vividly,we are limited beings. After the fall of man in the garden of Eden, man only lives by the grace of God.By grace we are saved,by grace we are restored into fellowship and peace with God through the blood of His son on the cross at Calvary.Grace suffices us.Not our works.

My grace is sufficient for you. I have heard that grace is divine enablement. Paul says; It is only by the grace of God, that I am what I am. It was Satan and his messenger that didn't want Paul and the abundance of revelations to be exhauled. I feel that the Lord was reminding Paul that he was already enabled to overcome the enemy's thorns, as Paul also implies in 2 Cor. 10:4; Our weapons are mighy through God to the pulling down of strong holds...Being in Christ, we are not to submit to the hindrances of Satan.

The easy way out of trouble is to force worship so that the power of God may manifest on our situation. The Lord dwelleth at the praises of His people. You can't rest in the presence of God and still be in trouble. Just rejoice always Philippians 4:4.
