Obedience begins from a faith filled heart, a faith filled person. "So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God." People involved in the murder of Jesus Christ on the cross believed and they sought to obey the Lord. They realized the horrible act they were guilty of and they did not want to die in their sins and be separated from the presence of God forever. ". . . Men and brethren what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For this promise is unto you, and your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." Those who heeded the gospel call believed and obeyed and received. Time and distance were not excepted, but included in the expression "all that are afar off." Then obedience is to be continued all the way to the end. It is not an impulsive now and then belief and obedience, but a continuous belief and obedience to the teachings of the New Testament. Not happy? Not satisfied with life? Feeling empty? Feeling shame and guilt? Feeling destroyed by something or someone? Try believing in and obeying Jesus Christ. Try it on and keep it up, on and on and on.
