1 John 4:4 begins with the testing of the spirits, as there are many that are in the world. The Spirit of God indwells every true born again believer, but other spirits can still have sway in believers' minds and lives. The apostle John here is both warning and encouraging his readers that God's Spirit in them will always lead them into Light and Truth, which is what Christ's servants, the apostles, were endeavouring to do. Seeing Wesley's comment, regarding this verse, I am encouraged that our God makes room for His people by forcing the pestilence ahead of Him. Even if the many English translations I can read are not 100% clear to me, I would still want to pray to & follow the only God that plagues and pestilence listen to and obey. ? Only a foolish person would want this God as their enemy. Remember,?One Way, Jesus!?
