What is the "doctrine of baptisms " mentioned in Hebrews 6: 2? It is, first of all, one doctrine not three. It is, however, a three-fold manifestation of the one doctrine. First, it is the doctrine of water baptism as represented in the ritual washing in the Temple worship and John 's baptism. Second, it the doctrine of spiritual baptism as when one has been baptized into the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ by way of His cross. Third, it is the baptism of the Holy Ghost, the Comforter, whom Christ said He would pray the Father to send to all who believed in Him to act in His stead. The first baptism is an ordnance of the Church and signifies the new birth. The second baptism is the sacrament of the new birth which is accomplished by the faith of man working with the grace and mercy of God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ upon the Cross. The third baptism is the power of God that enables man to operate on a spiritually higher level in Christ Jesus. It is the "law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus. Now you don 't need to accept my definition and you may refute my reasoning. However, I want to remind you that a three-legged dog can walk just not as good as a dog with four legs.

I dont understand the laying on of hands meaning i know some think its still being done today in the same pretense of healing as in the old prophets and disciples although i know all is is possible if God permits it but i dont think He does so my ? is where does it say in the Bible that this is still available today or does it i am just wanting to expand my knowledge of Gods word

Doctrine of baptisms, plural? Let's first notice; v. 1 encourages us to go on unto perfection, not continue to be hung up with foundation principles, such as "doctrine of baptisms". I feel I have found 7 different substances to be baptized, immersed into, to be absorbed by or overwhelmed with), referred to in the Bible. Israel was baptized unto Moses (1 Cor. 10:2). Baptism of repentance (change-over from old to new) (Matt.3:6). Baptism into the Body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:13), Baptism with the Holy Spirit (Matt.3:11, Acts 2:4, 8:14). Baptism of fire (Matt. 3:11), Baptism of suffering (Lu. 12:50, Phil. 1:29). Baptism in any other name (1 Cor. 1:13). Also, some denominations use the term "Baptized into the visable church, which does not seem scriptural. Some of these are symbolic water baptisms and some not. "Laying on of hands" seems to be in the "Going on to perfection" category but we shouldn't be satisfied with just talking about it.
