I can understand the belief of the azazel representing both Christ and satan. Christ carries our sins. Our sins are forgiven as far as the east is from the west etc, etc. However, I personally believe the azazel represents satan for several reasons. These points from my studies. 1 Why the need for lots if both goats represent Jesus Christ? 2 Premosaic, azazel meant evil personal being. 3 Jewish tradition azazel meant demon. 4 Arabs also believed azazel meant demon. 5 Person who led azazel became unclean and needed to wash before entering camp. 6 satan is banished to the wilderness, after millennium and after final release. demons are discussed in relation to wilderness desert. 7 satan is ultimately responsible for all sin. These are some reasons off the top of my head. Sincerely, Steve
