fairly certain this also applies.

Ezekiel 44:20

"Neither shall they shave their heads, nor suffer their locks to grow long; they shall only poll their heads."

Denny, Deut 6:6-9 was God's instruction to His people, Israel, on how they needed to deal with the Law & Statutes that were given to them. So God first tells them, "And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart" v6. So the important thing was for them to store up God's Law in their hearts & minds, as we would also do today with the Bible, however, since there was very little by way of 'hard copies' of the Law at that time, memory & regular rehearsal of the Law was paramount.

Yet, one thing that was set as a physical reminder to prompt them to find recourse to the Law & to God's Mercy on them, was to do what was required in vv 8 & 9: "And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates." This was a physical act to remind them, just as some today would 'tie a string around the finger or wrist'.

So portions of the Law were bound to the arm or placed in small 'packets' on their foreheads as their reminder to remember & observe God's Laws. The (mezuzahs) were also attached to the gates of their homes & passers by would touch it & repeat Psalm 121:8. I should say, that some feel that God did not intend for objects to be used but He spoke of them in the spiritual sense, i.e. to store them in their hearts. We don't have proof of how Israel in Moses' day actually carried out this command.

However, in Jesus' day, the Scribes & Pharisees changed the significance of this observance. Rather than promoting the keeping of God's Laws, they somewhat diverted the focus more onto themselves by making the small 'packets' much, much bigger, as well as making their garment tassels long & more conspicuous. Jesus derided them on their hypocrisy in this & other matters: Matthew 23:1-12. Today, the pious Jews usually wear their phylacteries, or tefillin, during prayer times only, so as to observe the commandment.

I do not understand Deuteronomy 6:8 where it says: And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand,....

I think they are referring to the commandments expressed in chapter 5.

I need help and clarification on how to: "bind them for a sign upon thine hand.

Any help would be appreciated. God Bless.

Maybe it means don 't wear round hats... I think not shaving hair over the temples makes us all Jewish, like with their little curls. G d seems to always want his children to be distinct and separate from the evil of the world, and I think, in this day and age, just being truly compassionate and good, even to your enemies sets you apart and makes you a target enough. If you aren 't tormented by evil, you are not truly good.

Jesus Christ does not has long hair and the scipture didn t say that man must not trim their hair it clearly stated that they should not shave the hair on the temple or their beard that means the hair on the side of their face or their beard 1 cor 11 14 15

this verse has nothing to do with the hair on your head. leviticus 19:27 forbids the cutting of sideburns or shaving of beards.

we are all created in His image. shaving is a form of desecrating our bodies, which is a sign of disrespect to God.

Jarrett Forte's comment on 2013-10-21 19:30:28:

Leviticus 19:27 is one of my favorite Bible versus... Jesus Christ NEVER had a hair cut or any type of clean shave. He also didn't have the tools needed to do so. Basically the verse is telling God's children, us, to be completely natural no hair cuts no shaving Just natural. I don't think you will go to hell for shaving or getting a hair cut but I don't, I don't shave or cut my hair some people like it some people don't. If God didn't want men to have beards he wouldn't have created them. If he wanted people to be bald he would have made us all bald. In This day and age 2013 for the most part especially in the city areas in the united states people rarely look like the people did back in Bible times... The goal for a Christian is to be more and more like Jesus Christ everyday. God didn't make anything bad, people make things bad. I will not shave, I am 19 years old and masculine and comfortable with myself. "With God All things are possible." -Matthew 19:26 I would like to also say everything isn't for everybody... Just because I look good with a Big beard and a lot of hair doesn't mean the weather man with a haircut and a clean shave would too... Everything isn't for everybody... Thank you and God Bless

Now I understand why Jesus has long hair. :D

Sheng Yang's comment on 2013-04-08 16:54:05:

this verse means not to shave or trim the sides of your head? aren't guys suppose to keep their hair short? just saying. if my side hair grows longer, it means I can't cut it right? I'm confused. I'm not against it or anything and I understand why we shouldn't cut our sides of our head but what happens if our side hair gets to long and feminine?

Wisdom Azubike's comment on 2013-01-07 10:56:35:

God gave this law to the children of Irael so as to stop them from practicing what the Idolatrous nation about them did in consecration for the idols. Today the Idolatrous nation around us christians is the World. We christians are not to copy the way of the world in our hair style. When you go to a barbing saloon there are so many hair styles available there, those are what the devil, the prince of this world made available to his followers. But we are the disciples of christ and we need to abide in christ and follow his precepts. when some men go to the barbing saloon instead of being modest they tend to give their side bears a type of design or shape that tend to woo the opposite sex all these should be avoided by the followers of christ.
