Hope's comment on 2014-01-03 21:30:11:

I was wondering why the NIV states "those along the path" while all the others say "by the wayside" or something like that? I think that it is referring to those BY THE WAYSIDE that hear, yet the devil comes and takes it from their hearts to prevent them from believing and being saved. While the NIV makes it sound as if those ON THE PATH are the ones who hear and the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts so that they may not believe and be/remain saved. That is two different descriptions. The ones who believe (on the path) and the ones (by the wayside) that are hearing the word to begin to believe. It is confusing. To me it sounds as if the NIV is talking about the believers who are on "the path of righteousness" and not those who hear but are "on the wayside" of which the devil comes and takes the word from their heart to prevent them from believing and becoming/being saved. This is just one of the reasons that I have been confused by the NIV. I would also like to add that Jesus Christ is the only BEGOTTEN son of God. In the NIV it reads that he is the one and only son of God but Adam is also referred to as a son of God in Luke 3:38. Christians are referred to as "sons of God".
