Jesus has begun giving instructions about what He wants His twelve hand-picked apostles to do when He sends them out on their own (Matthew 10:1-4). He began by defining where they should not go: to any Gentile areas or Samaritan towns (Matthew 10:5). Instead, Jesus now says, He is sending His representatives to the "lost sheep of Israel."
At the end of the previous chapter, Matthew described Jesus as feeling compassion for the people as He looked out over the crowds. Jesus saw that they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Those are the "lost sheep" Jesus is sending His disciples to reach with the good news of the Messiah and the kingdom of heaven.
In saying this, Jesus was directing the good news to all the people of Israel, not just some. God's plan was that the good news of Jesus would first be preached to Israel and then later to the rest of the nations (Romans 1:16).
Context Summary
Matthew 10:5-15 contains Jesus' instructions for His twelve apostles, for their missionary trip to the towns of Galilee, in northern Israel. Their mission will be to preach His message that the kingdom of heaven is near, while also healing people and casting out demons. The apostles must not take with them extra money or clothes. Instead, they will stay with those who are worthy in each town they visit. If nobody in a town believes their message, the disciples are to shake the dust of that town from their feet. Jesus will follow these instructions with a series of warnings and encouragements.

Dear Yvonne,
I just read up on this by googling "wise as serpents, gentle as doves meaning. The site "Got Questions" has a good write up on this scripture from Jesus. I refer you to that site, which explains it better than I could.

Dear "Yvonne Haynes", Here you have found a question. :) Which probably has more views on it than i have. I will try to show you. A snake: Crawls, eels, bites, is poisonous, is cunning, hides, waits for the right moment.
A pigeon: Alert, stays at a distance, flies away easily, sensitive, notices everything, wants a quiet environment, peacefull.
In the kingdom of God for and saved souls, all this can be used for that cause and much more. These are opportunities we can use forever, and be a servant of Jesus Christ. So it is not a small option. This makes me think of all the possibilities. But we must be aware of and end up in the salad once in a while as well. :)
Good luck and here are some words from Jesus Himself:
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

What does Matt: 10:6 mean to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves?

In Revelation chapter 21 we see the new Jerusalem, "coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband", and "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God." So in the end, heaven and earth will be together. The meek, in and by Jesus Christ, inherit it all.
The Old Testament was given to Israel and they were supposed to be a witness to the world:
Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations. (1 Chronicles 16:24)
It was also given for us to learn the ways of the LORD by it:
Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. (1 Corinthians 10:11)
The New Testament is for the world to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ whereby whosoever will come unto him shall be saved.
The soul that sinneth, it shall die:
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.(Romans 6:23)
There is a second death:
And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21:6-8)

Trish: Pray when you study God's word. The Bible is the living Word of God. The Bible cannot be summarized, because the more you read it, the more depth and understanding you will have. God created man to worship Him. We were created for his glory. Therefore, he set rules in order for man to follow. These are the 10 commandments, as well as the doctrine taught by Jesus. Repent and sin not. Read the New Testament first from Matthew to Revelation. Read Psalms to understand who God is, what he does and what he has done. The Jews were his chosen people because God wanted them to be an example for the Gentiles (everyone who is not a Jew). The commandments are for both. God requires us to live holy in this present world and live without sinning. When God sends Jesus to gather the saints to be with them, He will separate the saints from the wicked. Fire and brimstone will fall from the heavens and earth will destroyed and recreated. The saints, who are meek will return to a new heaven and a new earth, literally. The wicked shall be cast into the lake of fire with the devil known as Satan and all the demons. It will be a place burning eternally with fire and smoke. The wicked will not die. The righteous will have spiritual bodies. Heaven will be the headquarters of God, Jesus and their angels. We shall be caught up to meet him in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord. The soul that sins shall die. This death is an eternal separation from God. Saints will be in the first resurrection. The righteous shall live forever with the Lord. (To be continued.) We are to believe who God is, that Jesus is His Son and our Saviour. Jesus came to save us from sin. Many people will be alive when Jesus comes in the air. We will all be judged by God when resurrected. Then we will be separated, the good from the evil people. Some will be with Jesus, others to everlasting punishment. Fear God and keep his commandments. This is the whole duty of man.

Sister Western; maybe I could share a thought or two on the here after with you, Paul tells us that according to our faithfulness we may RECIVE a reward much like the GLORY of the sun, he went on to say some will RECIVE a glory no brighter than the moon, but Many because of their like off faithfulness will only have as much glory in as the many differences in brightness as the stars. And of course JESUS referred to those that came to HIS LIGHT and took no Root in the barren ground, and fell away, (Backslide)However some fell into good soil and bore much fruit, and when we stand before the the SAVIOR at the Final Judgement to be divided left with the goats or right hand with SAVIOR'S sheep who responded in this life to HIS voice. (Outer Darkness) awaits those who fell with the third of the angels and Satan from heaven?!?!?!

Hello, My question is: In Psalms 37:11; 29 it speaks of the righteous and the meek will inherit the earth.
Also Mathew 5:5 Jesus said "Happy are the meek for they will inherit the earth."
If Christian's are to go to heaven when they die, how is it they will inherit the earth?
Also is the Old Testament primarily for the Jews?
Is the NT for the Jews and Gentiles?
What does it mean in Ezekiel 18:20 "The soul that sinneth it shall die? Does this mean there's no life after we die? Same with Ecclesiastes 9:5,6 "The living at least know they will die, but the dead know nothing. They have no further reward, nor are they remembered.
6 Whatever they did in their lifetime-loving, hating, envying-is all long gone. They no longer play a part in anything here on earth. NLT
I was once a Jehovah Witness and I've come to realise they don't practise the Truth. So please help me try to understand what the true message if the gospel is.
I have many more questions, but it will take time to understand it all
Thanks Trish Western

People in the family have great affection and attachment for each others. So they do not feel need of attaching themselves with God.So the Christ is saying that he has come to cut the bond of attachment in the family and outer members so that they may start feeling the need of God in and after their life, because family members can do nothing for us after our death.Only God is our protector after death.

Grace comes from the Greek "Karas " which means thank, as in "what 'thank ' have ye? " That is the only context in which Christ mentioned "grace ". NONE of this liberal get out of jail free card that denominations falsely teach as doctrine. Oh, but Jesus DOES teach on THIS! Jesus dOES say to keep HIS commands. No one is DOING tHAT though.

This passage is very often overlooked by so many. Throughout history people are born into a religion etc. By this passage grace , people will endure to search for answers about the kingdom of God. Your belief structure will tested and through Christ grace, if you pursue the truth the truth will set you free.
