Perhaps a parallel. Colossians 2:8 (KJV) Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
FUNKE OGUNSOLA's comment on 2021-01-26 00:13:34:
The various translations of Prov 18:1 show that the one who separates himself in that context separates himself from sound wisdom, probably because it does not align with his own thinking/understanding. It thus means that in his desire to seek knowledge and understanding, he alienates himself from the crowd so he can weigh or juxtapose other wisdom for his best purpose. Hence, verse 2 calls him a fool who has no delight in understanding of good sense; he only wants to reveal what is in his heart to others.
Justin U Nwokolo's comment on 2015-01-14 23:58:18:
Separating yourself from the influences of the worldly to seek Godly wisdom. It is when you separate yourself and connect to God through his word - through the guidance of the word of God which should be our template for living that we can influence the world correctly. The world is currently experiencing much turbulence that only in the word of God there is stability. Jesus Christ is Lord, thank you Jesus.
Mike Gardelle's comment on 2014-01-28 11:16:28:
(Through desire)means- through wanting something very much or willing to do something. (A man having separated himself) means- separated himself from the things or influence of the world. This is the meaning of the word Holiness, when the Bible say's God is Holy it is saying He is Separate. The wisdom of the world is not God's Wisdom and to find the wisdom of God one must turn his back on worldly things and worldly wisdom to actually be able to see Godly Wisdom.(Seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom)means- desparately searching and looking to find wisdom, to intermingle with its knowledge. How could bible schollers have missed this. I think maybe they revere man's wisdom as more valuable than True Wisdom which comes from God, instead of the world.

I cam across this scripture in a Watchtower article about Divorce. I really liked what it had to say about being careful of not being too discouraged that you withdraw from everyone. It also brought out that associating with friends and family, and seeking their support is important.
There is a Bible verse for everything.
Timothy Wayne George's comment on 2013-07-18 02:56:58:
He who separates himself seeks his own desire, and goes away from all sound wisdom. In the Garden of Eden after the fall, man is tempted with the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life, and these are the areas of desire that cause men to go away from sound wisdom. The fear of the Lord is to depart from evil, and not be wise in thine own eyes. The Holy Spirit directs a man to seek the Lord, and to walk in His ways. Hear O man what God does require of thee: to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk in humility before the Lord.
