There are several verses leading up to this one where we see David undergoing severe testing that has literally drained him. He has called on the Lord however in the Lord 's sovereignty he has found no relief. That being said, David has not lost faith, but on the contrary his faith is strengthening. Persecution or hard times are healthy in our lives because the genuineness of our faith not only becomes clear to us but to others around us. David ends this verse saying, " I have not forsaken your precepts. " Understanding where he is at in the struggle makes this an significant statement. This can only be produced by a genuine faith.
